Fasting with Dr Michael Mosley

Dr Michael Mosley, has developed a fascination with fasting. He has been working with Professor Valter Longo at the University of Southern California's Longevity Institute to further his knowledge.

As a result, Mosley has commercialised a modified 5:2 diet called the Fast 800 diet. This diet restricts calorie intake to 800 calories per day, closely resembling the 1090/725 calorie Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD) outlined by Professor Valter* in his best selling book The Longevity Diet.

The Fasting Mimicking Diet meal plan is designed to force the body to shed excess cells (including immune and mast cells) and provide nourishment for their renewal. It helps to reverse the unwanted effects of a Western diet that is high in animal based proteins which actually accelerates the ageing process.

Fast mimicking has been shown to result in the reduction of inflammation and the hormones associated with ageing and has the wonderful side-effect of reducing visceral (abdominal) fat.
